Creative climate action workshops.

Spaces for people to think, make and act on the climate crisis, led by local artists.

Kick-starting positive cycles.

In November 2021 the UK hosts the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow.

Esther Neslen got these workshops going in the run-up to the conference. The aim was to be part of holding those in power to account. To be heard. To inspire. To have a creative impact.

Local artists led a range of activities with the aim of preparing things for the climate protests planned for November 6.

Standing tall.

Esther Neslen ran this activity where kids became trees. A playful way to show your solidarity with nature.

Earning your stripes.

Amy from HubRen turned a colour coded infographic into a communal and contemplative painting-by-numbers challenge. The sections will be sewn together to show the past 150 years of British average temperatures and how they have warmed. You can create your own diagram based on Met Office data at showyourstripes.info

All who took part noted how surprisingly soothing it was to do. It also kick-started a lot of interesting conversations.

Facing our dragons.

Inbar led a dragon making activity. There’s something empowering about making our fears tangible, they become something that can no longer lurk in the shadows.

The finished fire breathing dragon will be a colourful and memorable part of local protests.

And I opened the doors to the Ministry of the Future.

This workshop is about giving people space to think about the future they want. We then put that into words, images and three dimensions.

Thanks for hosting us.

  • Higham Hill Hub

A brilliant community space next to Higham Hill Park, E17. The space is used by local people and groups for all kinds of activities. See more here.

We had the use of the beautiful church hall and Dan the pastor there was very welcoming to us and all the people taking part. See more here.
